The Civil Guard investigates the owner of a dog for leaving her with serious injuries in Librilla (19/06/2018)

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation to clarify the injuries and the subsequent abandonment of a bitch in Librilla, which has culminated with the investigation of a neighbor of Pulpí (Almería), who has been instructed as alleged author of crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals (animal abandonment).

At the end of last month, a representative of an animal protector filed a complaint in which she reported the discovery of a bitch tied and alone in the vicinity of the gas station and that had huge wounds on the right front leg and neck, this last, apparently, with the intention of extracting the identifier microchip, annul it and thus avoid being related to the criminal act, an action that put the animal's life in serious danger.

The representative of the protector transferred the injured dog to a veterinary clinic in Molina del Segura, where she was admitted due to the serious injuries.

After stabilizing it, the microchip reader was passed and the numbering obtained was provided to the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), which took over the investigation.

The investigations conducted led to the Civil Guard agents to the province of Almeria, since to consult the database of the Andalusian Registry of Animal Identification (RAIA) was obtained as a result that the dog was owned by a neighbor of the Almeria town of Pulpí.

Once all the necessary evidence has been obtained, the civil guards have located and investigated the owner of the dog, who has been instructed to act as alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals (animal abandonment).

The investigated, the can helped and the educated diligences have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Totana (Murcia).

Crime of animal abandonment

The crime of abandonment of animals is included in the Criminal Code and included in the crimes related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals.

This offense is committed by the abandonment of an animal in conditions that could endanger their life or integrity and is punishable by a fine of one to six months and special disqualification from three months to one year for the exercise of profession, trade or commerce that have relation with the animals and for the possession of animals.

With the main objective of raising awareness among citizens to promote the necessary measures in protection, management and welfare for domestic animals, as well as to denounce those behaviors contrary to animal welfare of which they are aware, the Civil Guard began the year campaign # YoSiPuedoContarlo.La Guardia Civil has been detecting an increase in citizen awareness, not only through formal complaints, but also among users of social networks, as evidenced by the fact that one of the topics that generate the most interaction in our followers of Twitter and Facebook is the request of citizen collaboration to clarify crimes of mistreatment towards animals.

The second objective of this campaign is to raise awareness among the population that having an animal is a great responsibility and that animal abandonment is punishable under the current Penal Code.
