The Irrigation Community of Tajo Segura de Librilla has initiated the procedure for contracting the modernization works for Irrigation sector irrigation No. 2. The announcement of the tender was published yesterday in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM).
This section has water resources from the Tajo-Segura Transfer, surface water from the Algeciras ravine and reclaimed water from the Librilla WWTP.
The works are aimed at reducing water losses in transport and distribution, replacing the current irrigation system by surface with another one of drip irrigation, with greater efficiency in the use of water, the implementation of a method of irrigation automation, which will allow the management of the same from a device connected to the internet, as well as the use of renewable energies.
The project includes, among other elements, two filtering stations, a pumping station powered by photovoltaic solar energy, the construction of a new pressurized transport and distribution network, hydrants, and a system that will allow the measurement of water consumed and management of irrigation.
The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has granted aid of 4.2 million euros for the execution of these investments.
This aid is part of the measures of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia 2014-2020, aimed at improving and modernizing community irrigation infrastructure in Irrigation Communities and General Irrigation Communities.
This aid is 63 percent financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), 11.1 percent by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment and 25.9 percent by the Autonomous community.
85 percent of the cultivated area in the Region is modernized, and around 130,000 hectares already have a localized irrigation system.
