The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment has granted an amount of 3.9 million euros for the modernization works of Librilla irrigation.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, today supervised the progress of the works of sector 2 started in 2019, which have a budget of 8,136,000 euros and whose completion is planned for the end of 2020.
These investments, within the framework of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia 2014-2020, are financed by 63 percent by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), at 11.10 percent by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment and at 25.90 percent by the Autonomous Community.
Sector 2 has an irrigation area of 880 hectares, mainly for the cultivation of lemon, is formed by more than 900 community members and has water resources from the Tajo-Segura Transfer, surface waters of the Algeciras watercourse and regenerated waters of the treatment plant of Librilla.
Among the most beneficial aspects of these works, the counselor highlighted "the reduction of water losses in transportation and distribution, the replacement of the current surface irrigation system with the drip irrigation system, which has a greater efficiency in the use of water, the implementation of an irrigation automation system, which will allow its management from the mobile phone or a computer connected to the internet, as well as the use of renewable energy. "
The project includes two filtering stations, a pumping station powered by photovoltaic solar energy, the construction of a new pressurized transport and distribution network, hydrants, field connections and a control and automation system that will allow the measurement and control of volumes of water consumed by each irrigator and irrigation management.
Meeting with the mayor of Librilla
Before visiting the works, the counselor met with the mayor of Librilla, Francisco Rubio, and with representatives of the aforementioned community of irrigators, to also address other matters of interest to the municipality, such as the next tender for the conditioning works of the rural roads Cañada de Lorca, Los Rincones and Media Legua.
