The Ministry of Agriculture and Water will start work on modernization of irrigation in the Community Irrigation Librilla, sector IV of the irrigation area, the Tajo-Segura, with an investment of 7.9 million euros.
The Director General of Irrigation and Rural Development, Julio Bernal, said that the aim of this action "is to reduce water losses and improve current irrigation water service to all plots in this sector integrated" through the replacement network ditches another under pressure for drip irrigation management.
The Ministry has already built in 2007 regulating reservoir "Doña Vicenta", which are deposited accurate flow rates for this irrigation area of ​​110,000 cubic meters, for an amount of 990,000 euros.
The Community Irrigation Librilla, composed of 1,850 farmers, covers an area of ​​2,952 hectares.
The works in this sector affect an area of ​​500 hectares, and once completed, may begin the other three irrigation sectors.
These actions are included in the Rural Development Programme of the Region of Murcia, which promotes and funds the transformation of traditional irrigation management and localized irrigation technology.
In the Region of Murcia has acted on more than 150,000 hectares of irrigated land, which represents 87 percent of the regional irrigable area.
