The IMAS almost 200,000 euros intended for the care of people with mental illness Totana and Aledo (25/03/2014)

The CEO of the Murcia Disability Social Action Institute AFEMTO appreciated the work to "promote integration and remove the stigma suffered by these patients"

The Directorate General of People with Disabilities Social Action Institute Murciano 189,832 euros intended to subsidize 17 of the 32 seats that have accredited the Day Centre of the Association of Families and Persons with Mental Illness Totana and Aledo (AFEMTO) to meet those suffering from mental illness.

With the inauguration of the new Librilla Day Centre AFEMTO, the CEO of IMAS, John Brown, praised the work done by professionals in this organization for more than ten years ago and stated that "more work is needed to promote the full integration of the mentally ill. "

The opening of this center will enable practitioners of this association "continue to provide an essential service for people with mental illness and their families in order to ensure the protection of their rights."

New Day Center has two offices, a nursing room, a pottery, a living rehabilitation and other multipurpose, dining room, kitchen and patio, among other agencies, allowing them to continue their daily activities .

These new facilities, which provide services seven socio-professional activities of psychosocial rehabilitation, a program of leisure time, hobbies and other occupational workshops are developed.

Through AFEMTO Day Centre, which is open from 10:00 to 17:00 hours, offers comprehensive care in day time people aged between 18 and 65 who have psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar as well as disorders obsessive-compulsive disorders, among others.

It serves from a biopsychosocial approach to people experiencing mental illness dependence of Municipalities of Totana and Aledo and other neighboring countries to improve or maintain their levels of personal autonomy and support to carers areas.

In addition to the patients at the Day Centre, is also often meet through other services AFEMTO about 35 people annually with some type of mental illness and need help to adapt to the environment around them.

The main objectives of AFEMTO is defending people with mental illness and their families, improving quality of life and awareness to break barriers and social stigmas made this group.

Brown stressed the "importance of continuing to support those groups working to promote the integration of people with mental illness because, according to various studies, one in four people suffer from a mental disorder throughout their lives."
