The Governing Council has authorized the construction of an irrigation pond in Librilla, in the framework of the activities of modernization of irrigation water user community of the Tagus-Segura of that municipality.
The works will involve an investment of 2.3 million euros, financed by 90 percent EAFRD European funds, 7.1 percent by the Community and by 2.9 percent by the Administration.
This infrastructure, which will have a capacity of 114,000 cubic meters, will increase the capacity of flow regulation.
Thus, a better use of water for irrigation will be provided, avoiding losses and allowing storage and made available in times of crop irrigation.
The deadline for completion of works is eight months and will be funded in 2014 and 2015 annuities.
The Community Irrigation Librilla, composed of 1,850 farmers, covers an area of ​​2,952 hectares.
These actions are included in the Rural Development Programme of the Region of Murcia, which promotes and finances the transformation of traditional irrigation to modern irrigation management and localized.
The Region of Murcia has acted on over 150,000 hectares of irrigated land, representing 87 percent of the regional irrigable area.
